CERT High School

About the Organization

The Great Lakes Community Conservation Corps continues the Civilian Conservation Corps tradition to address climate change, advance greener living, and provide needed education and training for disadvantaged populations in the Great Lakes area. Our Go Solar program offers a significantly discounted solar panel system installation to encourage renewable energy use and reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Our Reduce The Runoff program provides free landscaping to qualified recipients to minimize rainwater pollution from runoff and increase our waterways’ health. The Certification and Emergency Response Training (CERT) High School has locations in Racine and Milwaukee and works as a hybrid career academy that trains students to be first responders and prepare for occupations in the transportation industry. Finally, our Veterans Corps and Ag Veterans programs offer assistance with transitioning into civilian life. Our veterans’ services build on military experience, promote a sense of purpose, provide peer support, develop job skills training, and instill self-confidence.

About the Youth Program

Certification and Emergency Response Training (CERT) High School is an alternative high school designed as a hybrid career academy. We prepare students with several nationally recognized industry certifications, licenses, and credentials for high-demand transportation, disaster rescue, recovery, and community rebuilding occupations. The CERT High School is crafted to maximize earning potential and provide an advantage to young adults who may be at a disadvantage in life.Throughout the process, young adults who previously left or had been pushed out of a traditional school system without a diploma learn a wide range of occupations and acquire middle-skill credentials to perform a variety of duties. Training at CERT High School assists in covering content requirements for a high school diploma and jumpstarts students into careers. Their work also focuses on neighborhood beautification, land and water conservation and renewable energy installation.
