Outdoor Leader Internship
About the Organization
At the Urban Ecology Center’s three locations the wonders of the outdoors bring curious people together. Our programs bring our city’s children and families into nature and as a result, our urban parks are safe to visit, our kids are acquiring the science skills they need to succeed, and adults keep on learning about how our changing world around us works. We connect people in cities to nature and each other.
About the Youth Program
In the summer, The Urban Ecology Center provides career exploration, professional development, and adventure experiences to up to 18 high school students in 10th-12th grade. They work hands-on with UEC staff in departments like Land Stewardship, Community Programs, Animal Care, Community Science and Research, and more! The group attends the Teton Science School in Wyoming for one week and goes camping in Yellowstone. Youth work alongside their “host department” in the morning (land stewardship or community programs). Their day is scheduled with additional opportunities like monarch surveys, animal care, or working on their individual research project. On Fridays, we go on a “field trip” rooted in career exploration, urban adventures, and/or mindfulness in nature. Every day looks a little different, which is what keeps it interesting!
